Modeling with scars

IMG_20150523_182730 (1)

I’ve been doing a lot of online clothes browsing recently – I think it has helped me procrastinate a lot through the exam period but hasn’t been so kind to my bank account.

When looking at the models on these sites I’ve noticed that none of them have visible scars which made me think, do you actually have to be that perfect in order to become a model.

When growing up a part of me has always wanted to try the modeling life. Whether or not it’s the pretty clothes you get put in, or the glamorous hairstyles that get tried out on you, there is something very appealing about the modeling world. I know it’s not all as nice as it is made out, and there’s a lot of competition and stress placed on models these days, but still… it does look fun!

However, a big question is… if I ever made a go of becoming a model, would my scars be holding me back?

I’ve been doing a little bit of research and what I found is quite upsetting.

Many sites have said that having a scar doesn’t ruin your chances of becoming a model. This made me happy and gave me hope that the modelling world might not actually be as hard on  ‘perfection’ as people think it is.

However, I read on throughout these articles and these three key points were mentioned in each one:

1. Technology is so advanced that it is easy for scars to be edited out of pictures.

2. Make up artists do their best to hide your scars.

3. You could be dressed in something that doesn’t reveal your scars.

When reading these, I began to lose hope. To me these three statements are completely ridiculous, it seems as though the world has gone insane.

Having scars myself, it is safe to say they can make you feel vulnerable and insecure. So it makes me mad when the media makes out that having scars is a bad thing and they should be hidden or covered up. I know a lot of the attention is focused around on how slim a model should look. Just like size, a scar or two should not be made out to taint someone’s beauty.

We should see scars as adding dimension to a person, it gives them a history and a story. They should be celebrated not hidden or ‘edited’ away.

They’re a natural part of a human body and the modeling world should come to acknowledge this.

White Eyeliner | Natural Collection

20150409_225120 (3)

I’m very skeptical about white eyeliners. It can either look really good or really bad.

I guess it depends on the colour and shape of your eyes. Your skin complexion but most importantly what eye-shadow and eyeliners you wear it with.

I’ve never felt brave enough to wear it and really didn’t think I’d be able to pull it off. However the other week I plucked up the courage and bought a white eyeliner.

The eyeliner is from Natural Collection. I love this brand. It’s really affordable and doesn’t affect my skin. I’ve not experienced one bad product from Natural Collection yet and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a high quality high street brand.

I must admit I don’t wear the white eyeliner everyday – I’m still a little bit unsure as to whether or not I suit it. However, I quite like to put it on on a night out.

It makes you look more awake and seems to open up your eyes.

Sometimes it can look a little bit harsh but I find that if you apply just a thin layer then it can add a really lovely effect to your eye makeup.

I guess with a product like this you’ll just have to try it out yourself. But don’t be afraid like I was to buy one. You never know, you might fall on something really great!

Osmo Clay Wax | Review

Since getting my hair cut short on one side, I’ve been trying to find something that will give it that extra volume, something that creates a kind of messy but styled look and I have managed to fall upon the exact product which gives my hair that little bit more life.
It’s called Osmo clay wax and it is ace. It gives a firm hold which lasts for the whole day, I managed to walk the illuminations the other night and my hair came out the other side looking pretty much like it did when I left the house… and that never happens for me!
It doesn’t go flaky when it has been in for a while, and if you use the right amount it’s easy enough to wash out.
You don’t need a lot for the wax to hold your hair so I imagine the tin will last for ages. It’s not thick and it doesn’t way your hair down, it just leaves it with a really good texture and on top of that, it smells amazing.
I would really recommend Osmo clay wax, it is a little bit pricey, I managed to get it for £7.50, but like I say, I think the tin it will last a long time and with the way it makes your hair look, it’s really worth it.
You can purchase it on Amazon: http://amzn.to/1pbkv61
Tweet me @abigillibrand if you’ve used Osmo before, or if you know of another good clay wax
