Plans | Writing a novel

I don’t know how long you have been reading my blog for, but a very long time ago – way before I started getting into beauty and fashion reviews, I mentioned that I might start writing a graphic novel.

You see I have had this story in my head since I was in year eight – so around seven years now. Nothing has ever come of it, I guess the story has only really existed in my mind, and whoever I have told. But I have had seven years to mull over characters and watch this idea grow into something that I can no longer keep to myself.

I took a trip the other weekend to Leeds to see my sister, and I told her that I was thinking about turning this idea into an actual book. I did consider a graphic novel, but I can’t draw as well as I’d want the pictures to look, so my only other option is to turn it into an actual novel.

My sister said it was a good idea and introduced me to the site Nanowrimo, which basically helps you write a novel in a month. The month they’ve chosen is November and to be honest, I don’t think I could wait that long to get started.

When reading up on this site it makes writing a novel in a short time look achievable. To get your story officially classed as a short novel it needs to be between 50,000 – 60,000 words.

At first glance this looks impossible. But I’ve broken it down to writing 1,000 words a day and then in two months time hopefully I will have a first draft!

The thought of this is so exciting and so even with all of my exams going on and deadlines creeping up, I have decided to start writing and see what happens.

I’m currently on 4000 words which for me is an achievement just to start putting pen to paper (or in this case fingers to keys.)

I’m looking forward to seeing where this thing ends up and hopefully by the end of the summer I might actually be able to say I’ve written a novel!

Until then I will keep you updated throughout this journey.

Wish me luck.

November Favourites

For me this month has been quite a difficult month to get through. With deadlines pressing and and not seeing my family for almost six weeks, it has been a bit of a struggle. But there have been ways I’ve managed to over come stress and take my mind off the homesickness…

The first thing I did was buy an advent calendar for November. It may seem strange, but I’ve found it a great way to get through this month. Knowing that I was seeing my family in 25 days, I began the advent calendar as a count down to when I was going home. Visibly being able to see the days going down one by one, makes it a lot easier to get through them and it tends to make them go that little bit faster. I’m not wishing my life away, I just really can’t wait to see my mum and dad!

I’ve had a huge essay to write this month, and it has been dragging. I feel like all week I’ve had 100 words left to write and they just never seem to get written. So I decided to get myself a few treats from the shop to act as brain food throughout the past few weeks. I cant get enough of these Fizzy multi-colour belts from tesco. It’s three packets for £1 and I just happened to pick them but, but they were such a good find!

With all this work  going on, I was in desperate need for some down time. When my parents came to visit me a while back, they brought up the final season of 90210. I’ve been watching them for so long now and to see the series come to an end is really sad. I only have two episodes to go, I don’t know what I’ll do with myself when it’s done.

I have to be honest with you, a lot of procrastination has been going on but through procrastinating came good things! I rediscovered my red lipstick. I’d totally forgotten I had this colour, and one night when going through my make-up bag, I came to find the Natural Selection red lipstick. I’m totally in love with it and must wear this colour more often.

I’ve felt a little bit sorry for myself over the past few weeks and so have been giving myself the ultimate TLC treatment through this product. John Frieda conditioner is soo lovely. The smell is gorgeous and the results are stunning! I know being a student you’re supposed to get the raw deal, but I splashed out this month a little bit. I just absolutely love how this conditioner makes your hair feel.

So these are just a few favourites of mine this month, what have you been loving?

Let me know if you’d like to see me write more posts like this x
