Blogmas: Day twenty-one | Christmas Makeup Tutorial

Hellooo everyone! Party season has arrived and I thought that I would post up a quick and easy makeup tutorial for you to follow.

Step 1 and 2

Start with a completely clean fresh face. I used Clinique’s rinse off foaming cleanser mousse which completely strips your face of all oils, dirt and makeup. It is amazing, I wouldn’t know what to do without it! Then apply moisturiser if you have dry skin. I didn’t do this as I mousturise at night and then my foundation is quite oily and so in the mornings it is my moisturiser substitute.

Once you have prepped your face, apply your foundation and concealer. I have no idea which way round these are supposed to go, so if you know the proper way of doing this please let me know! However, I tend to put on my foundation first and then concealer on top. Here I used Clinique’s even better makeup SPF 15 evens and corrects foundation in the colour 04 Cream Chamois, and Clinique’s airbrush concealer in the shade 04 Natural Fair.

Step 3 and 4

I don’t contour that much but I do apply a little bit of bronzer where the sun would naturally shine on my face. I brush it onto my cheekbones, my jaw line and the side of my nose – if you don’t have a fringe you can put it on the sides of your forehead just below your hair line. This just adds a little bit of dimension to your face and gives it a natural glow. I use No7’s Perfectly Bronzed Dual Bronzer. As it is dual, there is a highlighter in the pack too which I use down the center of my nose (and my T zone… it also sets my foundation quite well too), my cheeks and my chin. I then apply Natural Collection’s Rosey Glow blushed cheeks blusher. This is my skin done! Now onto the eyes…

I think for a Christmas look, the eyes need to be quite natural with the eyeshadow, but a lot of emphasis with the eyeliner. Here I used a light brown on my lid and then a darker brown in the crease, just like contouring this is to give my eye some more dimension. Underneath my eye I applied a thin line of light blue eyeshadow. The camera doesn’t pick it up too well but I think it really goes well with brown shades and really brings out my eyes.

Step 5 and 6

I quickly coloured in my eyebrows with Gosh’s long lasting eyebrow pen in the colour 001 Dark Brown and then went onto applying eyeliner to my eyes. On the top lid, I went for a thin line in the corner of my eye and then made it go wider the further it went out. I drew on my wings quite small for a softer look, however if you want more of an intense eye the make your wing flick out bigger. The eyeliner I used was Seventeen’s Lacquer Liner wet look finish in black. I then used Natural Collection’s pencil Eye Lines black eyeliner for my waterline. I went right into the corner of my eyes in order to really frame them. After this I used my Soap and Glory thick and fast mascara in black.

Then I finished with what I think is the piece of resistance of the look. Bright red lips. I used Maybelline’s Pleasure me Red lip liner and filled in the rest of my lips with their Pleasure me Red (547) lipstick.

I really like this look, especially around Christmas. I think the red lipstick makes it warm and gives it a festive feel.

Please let me know what you think of this turorial and if you’d like to see other posts like this on my blog! If you recreate the look please let me know in the comments below. x

Blogmas: Day eleven | Festive Lipstick

I’m not one for wearing bright red lipstick on an everyday basis. I tried it for a while and ended up getting it everywhere! However Christmas time is an exception as I think it is such a festive colour that gets you ready for the season.

The lipstick I use is from Maybelline and is called Pleasure me Red (547). I have a lot of trouble with chapped lips in the winter and so I always have to find lipsticks that seem to be long lasting and moisturise at the same time. This one is amazing for doing so as it goes on extremely smoothly and has quite a creamy texture to it. I feel that I can eat and drink and it is still on my lips by the end of the day. The lipstick itself also has an amazing smell to it. It’s kind of a warm vanilla-ry smell which just adds that little extra something to the stick.

What I also love about Maybelline releasing this colour is that they have also made a pencil in the same Pleasure me Red shade. I have never used lipliner before buying this lipstick but it helps so much on application, especially with a darker more vivid shade like this. If you’re going to purchase the lipstick I would highly recommend the liner to go with it too. It has saved me a lot of time.

Please comment below with what you like to wear on your lips at Christmas time, I’d love to know! x

Pleasure Me Red. Lipstick | Review

lipstick

I have fallen in love with this Lipstick.

For ages now I have been searching for the perfect red colour. Not Blair Waldorf, pillarbox red but something with a dark, deeper tone. Every one that I have seen or tried has either ended up to be very red, or has a slight pinkish pigment which made the deep red look more like purple.

But, I have finally landed on the perfect colour.

The lipstick is called Pleasure Me Red from Maybelline in the number 547. It is absolutely gorgeous.

I have found with lipsticks that once you have a drink or after a meal they fade or have vanished completely. However with this one it seems to last a whole day without going anywhere.

When you apply the lipstick it has a wet look to it which instantly makes your lips look fuller.

With the colour being quite dark I decided to treat myself to a lip liner (also in pleasure me red) to assist application.

I’ve never really been into lip liners before or ever really tried them out, but since purchasing this one, I can see there being no turning back. It makes applying dark colours so much easier and seems to make the colour last a lot longer than usual too!

The lipstick is quite creamy and feels as though it is moisturising your lips at the same time. On top of this, it smells amazing – almost vanilla-y.

I would definitely recommend  this product, even if the colour isn’t for you, then most certainly try it out in a different shade.

Holy Grail | Challenge

1) Holy Grail foundation? –

Maybelline dream matte mousse SPF 15, I absolutely swear by this stuff at the moment. The colour I have is: Sand. It seems to go on quite thinly but for day to day use it’s perfect.

2) Which eyeshadow or palette do you always go back to? –

Gold Look, Next eye palette .  It has pretty much every natural colour you could ever want in there, with a few glittery ones for going out. It’s ace.

3) Which of these is your staple; Blusher or Bronzer? Which one? –

Blusher – Natural Collection, Rosey Cheeks. To be honest I haven’t really tried that many blushers. It was my sister who recommended this to me and I haven’t looked back since.

Bronzer – Collection, Bronze Glow Matt in the colour terracotta. It’s cheap and very high Street, I know, but it does the trick and looks great, so I really can’t complain.

4) Gloss or Lipstick? Which one do you always turn to? –

Gloss – Clinique long last glosswear SPF15. I wear this every day. I suffer a lot with chapped lips, but using this lip gloss seems to prevent them from getting chapped and so I never leave the house without it on.

5) You’re having a bad skin day, which product do you instantly reach for? –

Natural Collection – colour foundation again in the colour Sand. This is a little bit thicker than the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse and the coverage is a lot better. I very rarely wear this on a day to day basis, but when it’s that time of the month and my skin starts breaking out, I do have to delve deep inside my make-up back and whack on some of this.

6) You want sexy lashes today; which mascara can you always rely on? –

Clinique high impact mascara. It never lets you down and always makes your lashes look fuller.

7) Which brand of brushes are your favourite? –

EcoTools – these brushes are great. Not only are they environmentally friendly, they are also really soft! I didn’t realise the importance of getting the right brush until I purchased these, and they make such a difference to your make-up. Giving you a flawless finish.

8) Which is your everyday perfume/body spray? –

I’ve never really been into body spray. My family have allergies and so I’ve always used scentless deodorants.

9) Which is your signature makeup look? –

I normally go for a thin line of black eyeliner with a brown smokey eye and rosey cheeks.

10) Finally, which cosmetics brand overall is your most collected? –

You can probably tell after these answers that I love natural collection, but have also hoarded some Clinique products along the way.

If I could afford it, I’d love to try out more Clinique products as they’re just so lovely.

Maybelline. Dream Matte Mousse | Review

Recently I’ve been loving this Dream Matte Mousse from Maybelline. About six months ago it was recommended to me by my sister and I have been using it ever since. For my day to day look I always aim for a fresh face. I believe less is more, and especially when Im getting up on the last minute, it’s good not to feel as though a complete full face of make up is essential.

Having said this, I cannot go a day without using this Matte Mousse. Even with a thin application it seems to effortlessly even out your skin, covers up like a dream and provides an overall flawless look to your face.

It is great as it comes, I tend to just apply it under my eyes, on my eyelids and on any blemishes. With it being a mousse it is quite thick and therefore is quick to cover up and doesn’t need too much time spent on blending. However, you can also mix it with moisturiser – I like to use Aveeno. This creates an almost tinted moisturiser effect making the mousse thinner, easier to spread and easier to blend.

I use this product everyday and my jar of it just doesn’t seem to run out. I think within the six months that I’ve had it I’m on my second purchase. Which isn’t bad going… it seems to last forever! It may be a bit pricey but it’s definitely an investment.

It is such a good product and I recommend that at some point you try it out. You can probably find Dream Matte Mousse in your local boots store, or you can just order it here online.

What’s your favourite foundation? Have you tried a Mousse?

Face to Face | Everyday Make Up

The make up I used today consisted of Natural Collection, Clinique and Maybelline. I wanted a natural look, that kind of ‘no make up’ make up effect. On my eyes I used a cream shadow from Natural Collection which I put on the lid but also underneath to make my eyes brighter and look more awake. I used a dark brown shadow as eyeliner for the bottom lid of my eye. The liquid eyeliner too was from Natural Collection (you can see my review in my previous entry to this) and then I used Clinique’s mascara on both my top and bottom lashes.

To get a smooth complexion I used Maybelline’s Dream Mousse foundation which I mixed with some Aveeno cream to give a tinted moisturiser effect. I then used Natural Collection’s blusher to create a matt finish.

For my eyebrows I used a Maybelline dark brown pencil then to finish them off I carefully brushed the same dark brown shadow I used for the liner effect under my eyes. This gives my brow a more natural look rather than just using the pencil.

Finally to finish off my look I used Natural Collection’s (yup! I love this make) clear lip gloss which tends to give them a lip balm look.

I’m not one for coating my face but I do think that this look is subtle, natural and good for everyday wear.
