Blogmas: Christmas Day | My 2015 Highlights

This is it! Another year gone and what an ace year it has been. I can’t believe it is over already, time seems to be whizzing by almost too quickly. I thought I would put together a list of my highlights of this year.

1. Seeing meteorites in Scotland and tracing the steps of Ghost Adventures

2. Interviewing Lights and being published in the Louder Than War music magazine

3. My visits back home

4. Becoming really close friends with some amazing people

5. Having my first Caravan holiday

6. My sister weekends

This year has definitely been a rollercoaster of emotions and quite challenging nearer the end, but what has happened has made me stronger and has made me believe in myself a lot more. I have realised to stop caring too much about what people think of me and to do things that make me happy. From this, I have been less scared to venture out of my comfort zone and have made some amazing friends in doing so. I’ve also come to see the people who actually care for me, and as eye opening as that was, in some ways it has released me and I couldn’t be more happy for it.

I have learned to love life, live every day as though it could be my last and to do things that make me happy. Honestly, don’t surround yourself with people that get you down. Go out and make new friends, as scary as that might seem, for me it has been the best thing that has come from the past few months.

This year has taught me how lucky I am and to always count my blessings.

Thank you all for reading my blog, following me and supporting me throughout 2015. It means the world.

I hope you all have an amazing Christmas and I will soon be back in the New Year.

Until then… Eat, drink and be merry!

xxx

Blogmas: Day twenty | Home

hotdog (2)

It is finally settling in that I am home and home for quite some time. This is such a good feeling, you have no idea!

Today I went and met up with my friend Alex. We went and did some last minute Christmas shopping in town and fell upon this AMAZING American Diner which I think has just opened up. I ordered a hot dog, which was super yummy, and we shared a butterscotch milkshake. It was like drinking pure ice cream. Sooo gooood.

We wandered around the shops and I was constantly keeping my eyes peeled for a party dress that I could wear on New Years Eve. I had previously bought one, but it was in the Black Friday sales rush and so I didn’t have time to try it on. I wish I could say it was too big, however when I got it home I couldn’t even get the dress over my hips! As sad as it was, I had to return it. I’m sure they should start putting more zips in garments!

Anyway today I found the perfect dress (the silly thing is is that it was in the petite section of Miss Selfridge AND a smaller size than my other one) sizing makes no sense… But I liked this one better so in the end it all worked out well.

I would show you a picture but I might save that until nearer the time… But definitely check out the Miss Selfridge sales, they have some gorgeous items in at the moment.

When I got home I decided to unpack. I always hate this job as I accumulate so much at uni, that when I come home I find I have no space in my wardrobes for it!

Look at how jam packed they are – and that’s not all of my clothes yet! Streeesss…

Anyway, I feel so much better for sorting my unpacking out and getting everything back in their right places again. My mind is somewhat more at ease.

I’m seeing a couple more of my friends tomorrow to give them their Christmas Pressies! I can’t wait to catch up with them, I haven’t seen them in ages and they’re both so ace! Home is treating me well… I hope you’re ll having a good run up to Christmas too x

Blogmas: Day sixteen | The Sound of Music

I haven’t done an actual update in a while and I thought today was the perfect chance to.

It has been my last official day of university before breaking up for Christmas and what a lovely day it has been. It started off with a really laid back lecture (which feels ages ago now) where we were told how to construct our essay. All boring stuff, but very important! Then me and some friends went to Pret for lunch as a breaking up treat. I’ve only ever been there once before and it is soooo yummy! I got a tuna and cucumber sandwich and a hot chocolate and felt super Christmasy. We chilled there for a while then caught the bus back to where I PACKED FOR GOING HOME!

Yeeees, I am going home for Christmas tomorrow and I cannot wait! Only one more sleep now until I am reunited with the Gillibrands and I can feel all cosy and snug and festive and can relax for a short amount of time.

But to finish 2015 at uni, me and my friend Issy went to see a performance of The Sound of Music at the Lowry in Salford. The show was amazing and the evening led to many funny and surreal moments.

First thing, the show started, the music began playing, the crowd fell silent and a woman behind me shouted out, “Are we seeing Mary Poppins”. Well that was it… I couldn’t look at Issy, we were both in stitches. The man to the other side to me replied: “You’ve come to see the wrong show, love!” – It’s probably a have to be there moment, but take my word for it… It was hilarious.

We had press passes for the show as Issy was reviewing it and were invited to the VIP section in the interval. Being curious we wandered around the Lowry until we found it and were greeted with free wine. FREE WINE… yes as students we could not say no, I mean… would you? We walked into the room and it was full of important looking people. I felt like a duck out of water, and completely in the wrong place, but also quite prestigious. Kieth Chegwin was stood next to us, it was really quite surreal. Sipping our wine, we tried to look professional, however this impression was completely destroyed when we were ushered back to our seats. In a midst of panic, and on a pretty empty stomach, me and Issy downed the glass of wine – of course, it would be rude to leave any – then we hurried on back to our seats.

The rest of the performance was really special and I may have shed a little tear at the end.

The Sound of Music has always been a Christmasy type film for me, as it was always what they would used to play in my High School music lessons on the run up to Christmas. So watching it tonight got me feeling as though I was back at that age of 13 counting down the days til I broke up.

It has been a really lovely day, and as much as I will miss my friends at uni over Christmas, I cannot wait to see and hug my mum and dad tomorrow.

Goodnight friends! Sweet dreams x

(I think I made this post just before the midnight mark!)

Blogmas: Day eight | My top ten Christmas tunes

12359585_10153757804907370_1988232926_o

Hello everyone!

Today I thought I would throw together my top ten Christmas tunes for you to listen too. I must admit I have been setting my alarm clock to Smooth Christmas so I wake up to Christmas tunes every morning. I don’t know if this was the best or the worst decision, but it has made me ultra excited for Christmas!

10. Feliz Navidad

It’s not that Christmasy, but I couldn’t leave it off my list!

9. Fairytale of New York

I feel like it isn’t Christmas until you’ve heard this song.

8. Stop the Cavalry

Quite a nostalgic song for me I guess.

7. Merry Christmas Everyone

The ultimate Christmas Anthem.

6. All I want for Christmas is you

My dad’s favourite Christmas track (or favourite Christmas Video)… Christmas wouldn’t be the same in the Gillibrand household without it!

5. Wonderful Christmas time

For me this is Christmas.

4. Jingle Bells

It wouldn’t be Christmas without Buble now, would it?

3. Wish it could be Christmas Everyday

Another Christmas anthem.

2. Christmas Wrapping

The most annoying but amazing Christmas song of all time. Major ear worm.

1. Christmas time

My dad, his friend Dave and my uncle performed this song to us all one year. My dad sung (wearing a ginger wig), my uncle played guitar and Dave played air guitar. Nothing beats that memory.

So there you have it, my top ten Christmas tunes! I hope you enjoyed them and they got you feeling all festive! Comment below with your favourite Christmas songs, I’d love to know and listen to them x

Hello Again | Life Update

Hello everyone! I know it has been a long time since I last posted but lots is happening at this end! I feel like I’m busy doing everything and nothing all at the same time – a lot of the time life is very much ground hog day, but I always seem to find myself leading quite a hectic life.

I have found myself a summer job at a hotel, which I must admit has been taking up quite a bit of my time recently. But that’s fine, I get on great with my boss and the other people that work there so so it takes the pain of ‘going to work’ away. I’ve also been put on my mum’s care insurance for the past two weeks leading up to my test as I really needed to pass it this time. I absolutely HATE taking my driving test, but I guess I’ve become pretty well at it having to take it FIVE TIMES.

But luckily I passed this time, they do say that 5th time’s the charm, right?

I put it all down to my outfit on the day… I was wearing my new Wonder Woman top from H&M, which makes me feel so empowered as if I can conqueror anything! (Oh and maybe the ‘Rescue Remedy’I was taking beforehand too!) I spoke to the examiner about so much random stuff I bet he thought I was a right weirdo aha. One topic of conversation was how disheveled a dead seagull on the road looked. But whatever I said must have paid off as he passed me with one minor!!

Here’s a picture of me after the test… I apologize now for how I look. There were many sleepless nights before this day and I got so hot and sweaty going around the test route, it’s not one of my best looks. But anyway, here I am posing as Wonder Woman! The photo was taken by my Driving Instructor, Alison, who has seen me through my ups and downs over the past two years. I say driving instructor, but she’s more of a friend now than a teacher! So happy to have passed 🙂 🙂 🙂

I have lots of reviews coming your way. I decided to have a shopping spree in town last week and I really can’t wait to show you what I bought!

Until next time xx

Necklace | Om Mani Padme Hum

My favourite piece of Jewellery at the moment is this gorgeous necklace that was given to me by my parents a year ago.
It’s basically a piece of stone that has been carved and painted and put on black cord. On the front of the piece are the eyes of the Buddha and on the back is a Sanskrit mantra of ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’ which translates to ‘Oh praise to the jewel in the heart of the lotus’.
It’s believed that saying this mantra invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig – the embodiment of compassion. Even just looking at the written form of this mantra is supposed to be beneficial.

Childhood | A late night ramble

I want to be 5 again. Wouldn’t it be great to be that age, when nothing mattered, you got to play with toy dinosaurs and beanie babies all day. There was no concept of time. Tea would be made and you’d be called in from the back garden to come and eat it only then to return to playing pretend. I feel I was much more creative in my mind back then than I am now. I may know more, but fun isn’t the same kind of fun. Stories are ruined. Magic that was once there is now lost and things don’t seem to have that sunny hazy glow to them any more.
It’s quite sad, and I don’t understand it really. The saying ‘’the good old days’’, I’ve never got it until now. Of course there will be more good days to come, but I doubt they’ll ever be as good as all of the special moment I had as a child. My childhood seems to be packed with sunny memories.
Where has the sun gone?
I’m sure it must have rained but I can’t remember those days. They say the brain only remembers the good memories and maybe that’s what’s happening here …
The only rainy memory I have is that of a thunderstorm. Me and my sister were sat by our pond in the pouring rain, counting the moths at the window and watching the lightening light up the sky.
We used to make potions out of leaves, water, mud and grass. We invented Whizzers (when really, they were just water balloons). We’d have BBQs and stay out in the back garden until 10 o’ clock … YES!! 10 o’ clock!
Everything was innocent and charming … Where has time gone? I can’t seem to keep up with it these days. It’s only a few months until I’ll be leaving home and moving to University, not to mention I’m 18 a week tomorrow. Everything is so scary and everything is going by so fast.

Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and revisit those halcyon days.

Transeasonal Tracks | It’s starting to feel like Spring

The other day I was sat on the bus in my own little world when the smell of freshly cut grass came in through the windows. To me this smell represents the beginning of Spring! The air is still crisp but the sun is starting to sine through the clouds and if you stand in its rays you feel their warmth on your back.

I’m so excited for summer this year. It’s going to be one long holiday and there are rumors that it may be hotter than last year which would be awesome!

As spring prepares us for the summer season I thought I’d put together a list of five feel good songs to accompany this transition.

The Temples | Shelter Song

Coming into their own over the past few months, The Temples are definitely not going anywhere soon. I couldn’t write this list without them featuring on it. They make my 6 o’ clock starts less painful as I currently have them set as my alarm. I have high hopes for them this summer and can’t wait to see what they have in store ….

The Tribes | Dancehall

Sadly The Tribes are no longer together, but this doesn’t mean we can no longer enjoy them. I absolutely love this song off their album Wish To Scream and I wish that they were still around!!

David Bowie | Modern Love

An oldie but goodie. I started getting into David Bowie last summer so all of his songs remind me of the hazy mornings going to college where’d he’d keep me company on the long bus rides. I chose Modern Love as I have a fond memory of running for the bus to the beat of this track and feeling extremely embarrassed – Thank God for headphones!

The Heartbreaks | Delay Delay

The Heartbreaks are one of my favorite summery bands. I’ve chosen a song from their old album as I feel as though their new album is more serious. Each song from their old album could be a single – not to mention they remind me of Kendal Calling last year.

King Charles | Bam Bam

This man is amazing. His mustache is great and his hair is to die for! His songs are on a very thin line of really summery awesomeness and ridiculously cheesy, but never the less Bam Bam has made it onto my list of feel good songs – and that’s exactly what it is!
