TopShop Summer Wishlist

This summer I have decided I want to revamp my wardrobe and turn it into something that little bit more girly. I’ve noticed that I’ve hoarded quite a lot of black and grey items which is all well and good for winter, but it just doesn’t look summery at all. I want to embrace frills and pastel colours, lace and flowery patterns. The other day I bought some gorgeous dark blue jeans from TopShop Tall which I think just take the edge of black jeans in the summer, creating a more delicate and feminine look.

I am loving the pastel colours at the moment and have just recently purchased a stunning bag from New Look in pastel yellow. (You may have seen it on my previous post!)

So today I thought I would put together a few items that are definitely on my TopShop wishlist this season.

Untitled  I already have one of these gorgeous frilled tank tops, however the one I have is in baby blue. I love it so much that I might just go and purchase another!

Untitled1I have never seen anything with jelly fish on before, so I just think this is a really unique cami and super cute!

Untitled2

For those summer showers, this is an adorable raincoat to throw over your shoulders.

Untitled3

And if you know it’s not going to rain but just want that extra layer, then this jacket is perfect just to pull on.

Untitled4I must admit, I haven’t owned a pair of black shorts for a long time, but this summer I think they will be a staple as black tends to go with everything and has a certain type of classy look to it.

This is my start to a summer wardrobe wishlist. I wonder how many items I’ll actually end up purchasing before the season is out!

Vintage | Shirt Hunt

With it being this time of the year again, when the nights start closing in and the mornings seem that little bit more nippy it’s nice to stock up your wardrobe with some rustic colours, hats and scarfs.
After having that little shirt craze the other day, I took myself to a vintage fair hoping to fall on something good. Normally I have such a struggle finding things at vintage fairs. The items are either waaay too big, or just impractical. But here there were quite a few bits that were my size (mainly 70s flower power stuff though). Don’t get me wrong, flower power is awesome, I just don’t know when or where I would wear it!
I did however manage to land on a bargain, and bagged myself a shirt.
After riffling through the small section for what seemed like ages, I found this little beauty! The rummaging was certainly worth it.
I absolutely adore the colours, that kind of mucky, combat green is definitely my favourite autumn colour at the moment, especially when paired with a flash of auburn making this my dream shirt.
Everything at the fair was so cheap, they decided the price on weight and for a kilo of clothes it was only £15. With being a student and living on a very tight budget cheap and cheerful is the way forward and so with this frame of mind, seeing the shirt was only £3.75, I had to get it.
It really is a stand out piece and one that I couldn’t leave behind.
The fair is around again in Manchester on the 15thNovember at The Kings Arms… If you’re a fan of vintage you won’t want to miss it.

Fresher’s | Update

I’m just about to head up to the kitchen (the kitchen is on the top floor, and I’m on the ground floor… it’s a bit of a trek!) so here’s a quick update of my last week…
I’m here everyone! I’ve finally moved to Salford uni and what a surreal week it has been. I still don’t feel like this is it for the next three years. It’s as though I’m on some kind of holiday camp and within the next few days I’ll be going home, but I guess when the course starts and things get serious it’ll begin to feel real.
Home sickness hasn’t really hit me yet. I’ve not had time in Fresher’s week to dwell on things like that, I’ve either been too busy making friends and meeting new people, or sleeping. Though I must admit the first morning when I woke up to silence and there wasn’t the sound of my dad pottering around downstairs or the sound of my mum’s hairdryer on, it did feel pretty strange.
My room is decent. There’s enough space for me which is all that matters. Though I need to invest some time and money into making it feel homely. The walls are bare and are just a wash of cream which is giving it a clinical feel at the moment. But on our next trip to Manchester, I may pick up some posters and let the decorating commence.
My housemates are amazing. I didn’t really know what to expect and was kind of nervous about meeting who I was living with for the next year but they are all ace! We’re already like one big family. Everyone’s into the same kind of music too so we have been discovering some pretty cool clubs in Manchester this past week.

Tomorrow is the beginning of induction week which is exciting! I’ll get to meet everyone I’ll be working with and the tutors I’ll be having for the next year. I actually can’t wait to begin the course. I can’t believe Freshers is over and done with now. It has been a pretty fun, I don’t think it could have gone any better… except for Fresher’s Flu… I could have done without that.

University | Before the Beginning

And so the packing begins, the tears are flowing but the excitement is brewing. I don’t know how I’m going to react living away from home. It’ll be a huge shock I think for the first few weeks, having to learn how to fend for myself, I mean I can barely cook! I’m going to miss my mum’s homemade dinners. I guess though, it will be like playing dolly for a while. Making my room look pretty and colourful with posters and photographs, making new friends and learning my way around a city I’ve never really explored before.
I know it’s going to be ace once I get there, it’s just the initial leaving home that will be hard. My family are so close knit that I can’t imagine spending a week away from them let alone four months! But my university is only a 45 minute train ride away, which is how long it took to get to my college on the bus and I made that journey every day, so realistically, home is only down the road.
In less than a week my whole life if going to change drastically. I’m looking forward to it, I’m scared and nervous but at the same time really excited. I’m going to be studying what I want which I cannot wait for, the course I’m taking looks amazing and spending three years doing something I love is going to be awesome.
Now I’m just reaching the stage of ‘What do I need to take?’
My aunty has been amazing and has taken me out shopping for all of the basics – utensils, plates, and bowls etc. I even have my own cheese grater – sounds stupid but I’m actually pretty stoked about all that kind of stuff. I chose a colour theme of green and purple so my room is going to look like something out of The Jokers house, but they go together so well! We managed to find some bright green and purple coat hangers too – oh the small things :’)
I’ve gotten my whole wardrobe sprawled across my sister’s bed and I think I have one tiny closet to put it in when I get to uni which will be interesting. I might just have to pick out my favourite jumpers and leave my summer clothes at home. But what if I want to wear shorts one day? Ahh, the hardship! I’ll have to see how much I can squeeze into my room I think and then send my parents back with what didn’t make it into my wardrobe. I’m really praying that there is space under my bed that I can fill with clothes and shoes.
One thing I am hoping for is a housemate that can deal with spiders. I don’t know about you, but these scary female house spiders seem to be appearing everywhere and they’re absolutely huge! I have to admit they are very impressive, but I don’t think I’ll be wanting to share a shower with one if I can help it. I’m going to have to become brave, oooor find someone who already is brave…
It is certainly going to be an adventure and I so hope that the uni experience is as good as everyone says it is.
Wish me luck!

My Canterbury Tale | The Beginning

Hello everyone, I’m currently writing with post-holiday blues as I have just returned home from spending a week discovering the historic landscape of Kent. My family and I stayed in the small town, Chatham (which is just outside Canterbury) in a gorgeous 18th century cottage. It was so tiny and idyllic and was situated in the perfect location as it was right next door to a little country pub with a train station just a five minute walk down the lane. Over the past few years we’ve stayed in many cottages around England and I can honestly say that this cottage is the most unique and beautiful one we’ve stayed in yet. With beamed ceilings and a huge open fire, it really was a stunning building, if not a little spooky at night!
My sister and I were staying in the attic which had slanted beamed roofs and an impressive chimney breast which was a statement piece on all three floors.
We were lucky with the weather too. We had rain for only two days of our trip, but when I say rain, it really did pour down. We got absolutely soaked one day in Canterbury so when returning to the cottage we lit the open fire and all four of us sat around it getting warm whilst playing quizzes and watching The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – a charming film which I recommend you should watch if you haven’t already.
Stay tuned over the next few days to see what we got up to on our jollies, let’s just say it involves, knights, Earl Warwick, two Kings of England and Batman… Quite an eclectic mix of things!

Hoghton Tower | It smells like Autumn

It has been a chilly day, and the air has smelt like autumn. The seasons are definitely changing. I love autumn, I think it must be my favourite season. I know summer is hot, but when you live in the UK the heat is a hit and miss thing anyway. But autumn is lovely! The rich colours, the crunchy leaves under your feet and the crisp morning air. Not to mention the clothes you get to wear! I’m a huge sucker for the scarf and hat look. When you can get all togged up, put on your gloves and coat, drink hot soup and feel looked after. It definitely is a cosy season.
So with it being on the tail end of summer my family and I decided to make the most of the sun and head over to Hoghton Tower. We didn’t know it existed until we saw it the other day on a television program and what a little gem it is! With it only being around half an hour away from where we live it was the perfect day trip out.
We managed to catch the first guided tour and they took us all around the house, even showing us the underground passageways. It was really interesting. There were rooms where The Duke of Cambridge had stayed, places where Last Tango in Halifax was filmed and the bed that David Tennant used in the recent film Casanova. King James I had even visited. The walled gardens of the house were beautiful  and with it being the third most haunted house in Britain it was really up my street (because of my recent obsession with the American series Ghost Adventures, but that’s another story!).

Here are a few photos of the day, don’t mind my outfit! It was jumper, coat and turtle-neck weather (definitely the change of seasons).

Review | Miss Sporty

Sunday nights used to be nail night. Me and my mum would go through our collection of nail polishes, choose which colour we wanted our nails to be and then sit down ready to paint them in front of the TV with a hot chocolate. Downton Abbey, Selfridges, Call the Midwives and The Paradise entertained us whilst we painted our nails. You could say it was a going back to college and work ritual, we knew that when 10 o’ clock came, we’d be going to bed and the busy week would start all over again. Sunday nights were our calm before the storm.

Now with breaking up for summer and without our charming programmes on the box (Zombies seem to have replaced 20th century dramas, and who can paint their nails in the dark?) we don’t tend to have the same routine. But never the less we still find time pamper ourselves!

As you’ve probably realised by now I like to do things on the cheap side. Being a student I can’t afford to splash out a lot on clothes as come September the little money I have will be spent on food, not fashion (which makes me very sad!) So here I go saying hello to the high-street once again.

My Mum and I have found the perfect polish. It’s called Miss Sporty and for £1.99 you can’t really go wrong. The brushes are quite thick so with a few strokes your nails are covered. The quality is great! They don’t chip until at least three days in, which to me is amazing as almost every nail polish I’ve tried seems to chip as soon as I put them on! They dry quite quick though you can buy special ‘Clubbing’ ones that dry a lot quicker than just their normal brand. There is a diverse range and they even do these fancy metallic colours that seem to shimmer when in the light.

Between me, my mum and my sister we’ve practically bought almost every colour they have to offer. I just can’t get enough of them!

A small collection (you can get a lot more colours!)

What I’m going to be painting my nails in tonight. These colours look adorable together, I think they trigger something in my brain that makes me happy.

Find the brand in your local Boots store or online: http://www.boots.com/en/Miss-Sporty/

Challenge | Questions 3 / / 4 / / 5

3. Have you ever fantasised about changing your first name? To what?

Yes! Probably to Tabitha. Then it could be shortened to Tabby which sounds like Abi. At the moment though my friend calls me Bee which which I kind of like. Just different versions of my name I suppose!

4. When do you get your best ideas?

At night when I’m in that twilight zone and I’m not really thinking of anything but at the same time it’s as though all my thoughts in the day come together, mixing up ideas and producing things I don’t think I’d ever think of if it wasn’t for being in that state.

It’s either then when ideas come to me or when I’m least expecting it. Whenever I try and think of something to write or draw I can never think of anything good but when I’m not focused on anything a load of thoughts come into my head at once, it can be quite annoying!

5. Have you ever had chance to meet your heroes?

It depends what you class as a hero. I’ve been lucky enough to meet people I admire, The Charlatans, The Heartbreaks, The Gramotones. Then there are the people I look up to like John Robb and Sarah Lay who are amazing journalists. With John Robb coming from a background pretty much like my own it lets me set my aspirations high!
But the one hero that I’d really like to meet is the Doctor who saved my life when I was two years old! I know I have kind of met him when I was a baby, but I’ve never had the chance to shake his hand and thank him. If it wasn’t for him my life would be soo different to how it is now… I might not have even made it to ten years old, let alone eighteen. I have a lot to owe this guy and I hope that someday I’ll be able to meet him and let him know how grateful I am.

Blog 100 | Challenge 100

This is my 100th blog post and what better way than to set myself a challenge…
Seeing as this is my 100th blog, I have decided to answer 100 questions I’ve found on a collection of ‘self-discovery’ sites and hopefully before the summer ends I will have managed to get through them and will have ‘discovered myself’ before I leave for university.
The inspiration behind me setting myself this challenge is because I recently went to a Mind and Spirit fair where I spoke to a lady about writing a journal. She explained how it had been self-meditating for her and had helped her through hard times in her life. I know this idea isn’t quite like writing a journal but hopefully it will allow me to express myself and discover things I didn’t know about myself. It will be one big learning process for the both of us!
Some of the questions are quite personal and some are very vague but I will try to be extremely honest with you throughout answering them and more importantly be brutally honest with myself.
Do expect some random blogs in between these questions as I may want to share something with you that might not be entirely related to this challenge I’ve set myself, but I think the majority of them will be! (at least  100 of them however!)
Anyway here goes! My 100 questions challenge…
The only rule is that I answer them all.
Wish me luck

J
