Blogmas: Day thirteen | My Christmas pet hates

asdfghjk

Yesterday I posted ten things I love about Christmas so today I thought I’d post five of my Christmas pet hates (it’s only five because to be honest, I love Christmas and can’t find that much I hate about it!)

1. Shopping for presents

Getting gifts can be really fun, however when you can’t think of what to get for the person it is absolutely terrible, and you feel like such a bad person!

2. Writing Christmas cards

This can be such a drag, especially if you have quite a lot of people to write them for. It takes up a lot of time and money (cards are super expensive!) for something that is essentially just going to end up in the bin. Aside from that… there’s always that one person you forget to write a card to, and feel dreadful for it!

3. The crowds

I hate going shopping at Christmas time. Especially in Manchester. Because of it being a city and having the Christmas Markets everywhere is so packed and busy that it is really hard to get from A to B. You can’t just go for a laid back Sunday shop. These do not exist at Christmas time!

4. Glitter

Glitter is great on cards and on decorations, but it’s that tiny glitter that is annoying. The one that seems to get everywhere. You find it in your socks, on your hands, on your desk at uni/work. And even after Christmas and New Year it still seems to haunt you.

5. January deadlines

Something that every student can relate to. The stress of January deadlines and exams. I don’t know who the scrooge was for putting exams right after Christmas, but it taints the holidays and when you’re celebrating or trying to relax over the Christmas period, you always have the thought of revision or work in the back of your mind.

These are my pet hates about Christmas. They’re not that bad and really nothing to be complaining about (except for number five) but I thought I would share them with you anyway! What do you dread when it comes to Christmas? Please let me know in the comments below!

Blogmas: Day twelve | What I love about Christmas

asexdrcthjbk

I thought I would make a list of ten things that I absolutely adore about Christmas.

1. Family time

This is the most important thing to me about Christmas. Spending time with such special people and coming back from uni to a home where you’re loved.

2. Food

Every day on the run up to Christmas and New Year you have the excuse to eat as much as you like. There are chocolates and sweets and mince pies that you’re allowed to fill your tummy with without being questioned about why you’re eating so much rubbish!

3. Songs

I don’t know what it is about Christmas song but they always ignite that warm, cosy vibe of childhood memories and feeling safe and happy.

4.  Fashion

This isn’t just on Christmas day, but for the whole winter period. Scarfs, gloves, hats, jumpers… I just love how snuggled and wrapped up you get at Christmas time. Layering is always fun!

5. Weather

I don’t like the rain or the wind when you’re outside in it, but when you’re inside and you have your lamp on and it is raining outside there is something comforting about it. I have no idea why I feel like this… please let me know if you do too, but I sometimes like falling asleep whilst it’s raining. Then you get the crisp chilly days, where you can see your breath and pretend you’re a dragon, and everything smells fresh and new. I love those kind of mornings.

6. Happiness

Christmas generates smiles. Everyone is buzzing and happy and excited and it is just such a nice atmosphere.

7. Magic

Even though I know the Santa secret, Christmas is still magical and I love it!

8. Decorations

I love how every house is lit up and has a tree in the window or a Santa please stop here sign in their front garden. It makes the streets look so adorable and cosy.

9. Presents

I love to receive presents, don’t get me wrong, but I also love giving them. There’s something about getting a really good gift, hiding it under the tree and then watching the person open it on Christmas knowing they’re going to love it. Nothing beats that feeling.

10. Smells

I love how Christmas smells. Opening the boxes of roses, entering a house where someone has been baking or cooking Christmas treats, Christmas trees, presents – everything smells just delicious, and it only smells like this at Christmas.

What is your favourite thing about Christmas? Let me know in the comment section below!

Blogmas: Day seven | My Christmas traditions

123456

Christmas has been slightly different for me over the past few years, however this year we are back to how it was in the good old days and I cannot wait – the only exception is that my sister wont be here for new year as she is in Leeds, which is quite heartbreaking.

Christmas is a very special time for me and has become even more special since going to uni. It is all about family, eating good food and spending time with loved ones. To me, nothing can ever beat that.

We celebrate a lot throughout the season. Christmas Eve, my parents put on a party where my family come round in the afternoon. There are goodies out on the table and we play a few games. We exchange gifts with my aunty and grandma (as we don’t get to see them on Christmas day) and we all just get into the festive mood. Then at around 7 o’ clock everyone leaves. This started off as a way to give me and my sister time to get into bed nice and early so that Santa could come and deliver presents. Even though we know the ‘big secret’ now, we still leave out some goodies for Santa and his reindeer and still get and early(-ish) night, so we’re asleep when he arrives.

Then Christmas day we used to wake my mum and dad up really early, but now its them who wake us up! We open our stocking presents in our bedroom and make our way downstairs to the living room, all snuggled up in our pjs. Me, my dad, my mum and my sister all gather round and open the gifts under the Christmas tree. We then phone up my aunty and my grandma, have some breakfast and head on out to my Nana and Grandad’s house. When you walk in it smells amazing and is super cosy. With my nana’s home made mince pies, the dinner nicely cooking and all of the decorations my nana has made, you cannot get any more homely or christmasy. It is so lovely. Again, we exchange gifts, nom on all of the mince pies, indulge in the most tasty Christmas dinner, and then sit and chill all night feeling extremely full watching all of the Christmas TV programmes. It has to be my favourite day of the year!

Boxing day is my Dad’s birthday! So we always go out for a meal and kind of re-do Christmas day but with my aunty and grandma. We eat so much food, play a few party games and see my dad’s old cricket friend, Bruce, who comes out once a year on Boxing Day wearing a fabulous Christmas jumper (which I always envy).

Then the celebrations kind of die down until New Year’s Eve where we either go to my Auntys or stay in at home, but someone always puts on a party for our family and friends to gather. New Year’s Eve means a lot to me. It’s a time where you look back on the year and look forward to the future. I feel like over the past couple of months my family have been through quite a lot, and it was the same last year. Auld Lang Syne is quite emotional. I find myself distant from singing the song, but tend to just look around at my family and think about how lucky I am to be born into such and amazing and loving unit. I cherish every New Year’s Eve as you don’t know what the next year will bring.  It will be weird this year not having my sister there… But nothing stays the same forever.

Blogmas: Day four | My top ten Christmas films

12334021_10153747363837370_91997751_o

Apparently it is bad luck to watch Christmas films until twelve days before Christmas. However, thisnis a superstition that I have only just heard in the past week and so I don’t think I’m going to let it stop me watching Christmas movies films until then.

To get you even more into the Christmassy mood, I’m going to recommend my top ten Christmas films for you to watch. Starting with number ten:

10. Nativity

This is one to watch with the family on a warm cosy night.

9. Polar Express

This reminds me of my nana so much! She loves it and so do I.

8. Love Actually

It’s a feel good kinda thing.

7. Home Alone

For me, this is Christmas.

6. The Grinch

Taylor Momsen, do I need to say anything else?

5. Elf

The best way to spread Christmas Cheer…..

4. The Muppet’s Christmas Carol

I just adore this film. The Muppets are amazing.

3. Miracle on 34th Street

Instant Christmasy feels.

2. Annabelle’s wish

This just reminds me of being a child at Christmas. Happy vibes.

1. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

It has a lot of precious and special memories for me.

Blogmas: Day three | Early Christmas present to myself

Lights approved photo 1 - PC Matt Barnes - high res

Lights is coming to Manchester next year and guess who is going to see her?! I absolutely cannot wait.

She has been one of my inspirations for such a long time now, when she came to the UK last year I couldn’t make her shows and was absolutely devastated. But I purchased some tickets yesterday morning and no matter what, I will definitely be seeing her.

I have no idea what it is about Lights, I wouldn’t even say that I am into that kind of music. But there is something so captivating about her that I cannot stop listening to her. I think it might be the fact that I have a lot of respect for her. She’s not one of these musicians that are only good on their CD, she can actually sing live, and on top of that, is an amazing musician.

Everything about her seems real and I think it’s that reality which makes you feel as though you’ve known her forever.

I got the chance to interview her earlier this year. I was absolutely bricking it, but when we got talking it was literally just like a conversation you would have with your friend. She was so humble and kind – as though she doesn’t actually realise how good of a singer/songwriter she is. (Read the interview here.)

She has a tonne of love and time for her fans too which is something rare with the industry now.

She is such a beautiful human… You have no idea how excited I am to see her next year!

Also, yesterday I got the train home to see my family. We’re going to put the Christmas tree up this weekend. There are too many exciting things going on!

Lights and home in one day – Christmas really has come early!

Blogmas: Day two | Mika Memories

Mika2Bis2

I couldn’t not involve Mika in my Blogmas posts. He kind of comes out at this time of the year for me. I think it was around Christmas 2008 or possibly even earlier, my sister bought his DVD. On it was a documentary  of him and all of his songs and I think a live show of his – though I could be wrong there.

I think we must have played this DVD over and over and over again. Literally my mum and dad must have been going mad.

I’m really going to have to dig it out over Christmas sometime and watch it again – it has been too long.

But yes, he is like the Christmas songs of November for me. He is someone who allows me to get in the festive spirit without the bad luck curse. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to put him away throughout the rest December. Oh no… This year Mika is gonna stay a little bit longer than one month.

I think I’m a closet Mika fan and have been for quite some time… One year we got the chance to see him live in Manchester and he really doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He is such an amazing musician with a hell of a lot of energy. Not only this, he supports the underdog, and sings from his heart about a lot of experiences I can relate to.

I really want to see him come back and tour the UK in 2016 – one can only hope!

I’m just going to have to admit it now… I think I’m a little bit in love with Mika.

But shh don’t tell anyone. He’s still just my November soundtrack.

Take a listen to him now… He is great, and very handsome. Teehee (An early Christmas present to you).

P.s – I would like to dedicate this post to my sister, if it wasn’t for her that Christmas, I would not be dancing around my room to Mika right now x

Blogmas : Day one | The Christmas Tag

12309202_10153743936402370_1002712989_n1

Hello everybody! It is officially Blogmas and what’s a better way to start it off than with the Christmas Tag? I spotted these questions online and thought they were the ideal way to introduce you to some of my thoughts on Christmas. I hope you enjoy! Happy December y’all x

1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?
My favourite Christmas movie has to be Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. When I was two years old, I had just got out of hospital from having my heart operation around this time of the year.  Rudolph was one of the first movies I watched when I got back. It’s a happy sad kind of film with a lot of memories attached to it for me and my family. That and Annabelle’s Wish. I adore that film. It’s about a cow who wishes she was a reindeer. It sounds silly now, but watch it and I bet you cry!
2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
Christmas morning obviously! Santa delivers them when I’m asleep on Christmas eve, duuurrr!!! I do love Christmas morning though. Me and my family gather around the tree in our PJs and open all of the goodies underneath it. It’s a special cosy moment.
3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
Yes! But only now that I can look back on it… When me and my sister were younger we would leave nine Maltesers out for Santa’s reindeer and of course, some whiskey for him. The Maltesers would sit in the top of an empty Pringles lid. On Christmas morning we went downstairs to see if the reindeer had eaten the Maltesers and the Pringles lid was empty, except for a lot of reindeer saliva (of course this was my dad trying to make things look as real as possible). Such a genious drunken idea… which I don’t think I’ll ever forget. Santa and his reindeer were real to me that day.
4. Favourite festive food?
My Nana’s mince pies. Oh mt gawd, I have not tasted mince pies as good as the ones she makes. Honestly they are the best things ever, and super special because she only makes them at Christmas (even though it is illegal to eat mince pies on Christmas day!). I’m going home this weekend, and I hear she has been baking. The excitement is unreaaaal!!
5. Favourite Christmas gift?
The gift of life, love, family and health. Honestly, as corny as it sounds, they are the most important things to me and they are all that I want on Christmas day. For this Christmas most importantly is that my Auntie can celebrate the day and has an amazing time. That would mean the world.
6. Favourite Christmas scent?
There are too many! A box of freshly opened Roses Chocolates. That is the ultimate Christmas smell for me. Or a warm house that smells of cooking and food. Then there is the synthetic Christmas smell, and I don’t know how to explain it… it is just the smell of Christmas. My mum had a pencil that was scented with the smell.
7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
We have a party with my family at my house, where there are goodies on the table and my dad comes up with party games and it’s just a fun, nice gathering before Christmas.
8. What tops your tree?
We now have a Star, however on previous years it was this really creepy pot angel. But she just sits elsewhere on the tree now and has been replaced with a sparkly gold star.
9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?
I don’t think I ever asked for anything crazy or wild. I might have to get back to you on this one! I mean, even though he is magical, Santa is just human at the end of the day! Though one thing I did get was a toy of a black dog that I had seen in Santa’s workshop online. That was pretty crazy.
10. What’s the best part about Christmas for you?
It has changed over the years, but now that I have moved out and gone to university, the best part about Christmas is coming home and being surrounded by the people I love. Nothing beats being with your family.
I now tag whoever is reading this to answer the questions! Please comment below your blog posts if you do complete these, I’d love to see your answers x

L’Oreal La Palette Nude | Review

11991287_10153717552742370_110973521_o (2)

My Aunty gave me this as a gift in October and I’ve been using it practically every day since! The palette is in the shades of ‘Rose’ and each one is absolutely gorgeous. I feel as though with having brown eyes, nude and pink eyeshadows really seem to enhance them. Though I must admit my favourite colour in this selection has to be the dark purple – I think it looks great with a flash of gold.

I like to mix the colours with another one of my palettes that I got some Next a little while ago. The colours seem to go really well with browns and blues. The eyeshadows themselves are really long lasting and don’t tend to gather in the crease of your eye throughout the day either! They feel so light when applied and it’s one of the first eyeshadows I’ve used with glitter in that doesn’t end up all over your cheeks!

Not to mention how amazing the brush is. Now I would never buy a palette just for the brush that comes with it, but ooooh! I’ve not been that impressed with an eyeshadow brush for ages! It blends amazingly and is so soft! I absolutely love it and have been using it with my other eyeshadow palettes too.

Let me know if you have this palette and what you think of it. Also if you know of any good eyeshadow brushes please comment with them below! I’d love to hear your thoughts.
